Manager required for growing wood and charcoal business 

Location: Backwell, Bristol

Salary: Basic salary (negotiable)

 About Backwell Logs

Backwell Logs, part of Backwell Wood Estate, is a leading supplier for firewood in the greater Bristol area. Through the management of our 200 acre woodland we produce firewood which is then sold to the general public via our website with orders being fulfilled by our in-house delivery team. By controlling the source, production and delivery of firewood we are able to offer an exceptional customer experience. Along side our core winter log business we continue to sell all year round to customers and business by supplying wood and charcoal to fuel pizza ovens, BBQs and fire pits. 

About the Role

Following a period of exciting growth we’re now looking to expand our team with the addition of a full time Manager. Within this role, it will be your responsibility to lead our log processing and delivery operations. You will report directly to our company directors and become a key member of our team. We’re looking for someone who can lead from the front and isn’t afraid to be hands on.

The job role will include both manual and office based work which will be ever changing. We are looking for someone who has experience in forestry but also has business experience to help develop our Log Fuel Business. The job will also include keeping up the high standard of customer service for which we are known.

Working hours are flexible but would need to be available for delivering on Saturdays during log season months (Sept - April).  Although working hours will be a basic 35/40 hours a week, as a growing business, the hours need to fit the job rather than visa versa. As an organisation we are firm believers in investing in people and any additional training required in order to do your job effectively will be supported. 

 Key Responsibilities and Duties

Process harvested timber into logs for sale

Ensure our log production process remains efficient and safe

Delivery driver for Backwell Logs

Warehouse management 

Taking orders, customer service and planning routes

Stock control and warehouse management 

Support marketing activities 

Required Skills and Qualifications 

Experience working with wood materials

Computer skills including using software (Will be trained on in house delivery management software)

Up to date LANTRA, or equivalent in cross cutting and chainsaw maintenance

Extensive experience working with heavy machinery including tractors, forward loader, telehandler and log processor - any tickets for operating this machinery would be a huge bonus but additional training where needed will be supported. 

+F First Aid qualified

Category 1 Driving License (3.5 tones - 7.5 tones)

People person, able to get along with, lead, and inspire others

Strong communication skills

Hardworking and determined

Good people skills, customer service

Seasonal Assistant 

Location: Backwell, Bristol

Salary: Hourly Pay, based on age and experience. 

Basic hours Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30am - 5pm

Additional hours Saturday mornings when needed

About the Role

We are looking for a part time warehouse and delivery assistant for our log selling business.

The person for this job will need to like the outdoors, be fit and active and be ready for moving and lifting logs and log bags. Pervious use of chainsaw, tractors and farm machinery would be a bonus but some on site training can be given. 

There is scope for more hours depending demand.

Packing bags of logs 

Preparing for deliveries

Assisting in deliveries to our customers, giving a friendly and helpful service

Being an advocate for the business and its ethos

Required Skills and Qualifications 

Physically strong and fit

Good communication skills

Hardworking and determined

Good people skills, customer service

A chainsaw crosscutting qualifications would be ideal
